Getting Started

My first step in any creative project is to do research.

The Finestra Art Space is a small, intimate space, so I wanted to get a feel for the environment by looking at imagery of it online.

Immediately, the idea of the Japanese tokunoma came to mind.

The tokunoma is the focal point of the Japanese home where simple but beautiful objects are placed for meditative purposes.

I wanted this small space to have a sacred feel. I love the beauty and simplicity of Japanese art forms, so the idea to create a series of Japanese hanging scrolls appealed to me.

But what type of imagery should be on the screens?
